EXERCISE 8:

 

The child can be shown different aspects of symmetry. For example, show the child how to make a pattern in which one half is a mirror image of the other half. The mirror image can also form along the diagonal.

 

These exercises can lead on to an understanding of design. The children should be helped to notice design in their environment. To learn how to observe the environment with intelligence leads on to knowledge. The children can notice design in their clothes and patterns in tile, in architecture, and in great books of art. Show the children design used in different cultures and in different periods of history. This study can lead to further study of art, history, and other cultures.
