Maria Montessori is the name of a medical doctor who became a world renowned educator. Her medical training led to her background and interest in science. In her medical practice working with, and observing children, Maria Montessori became interested in developing and promoting a scientific approach to the study of children and to education. This led to many changes in education that we take for granted today. In addition, her discoveries led to a new approach to education that is practiced in both private and public Montessori schools around the world.
