Experience with Tasting
MATERIAL:
No special material is needed. Some schools use little tasting
bottles with eye droppers.
PURPOSE:
1) To make the child more aware of taste
2) To make the child intelligently observant
3) To help develop ability to make finer discriminations
PRESENTATION:
For snack or meals the teacher can help children become interested
noticing taste. The teacher should make sure to present only
things that have a pleasant taste, however. It is interesting to
present things that have very subtle tastes. The children would
enjoy comparing the tastes of a variety of apples (delicious,
Jonathan, Pippin, Macintosh, etc.), melons (cantaloupe, honeydew,
Crenshaw, watermelon, etc.), grapes (red, green, purple), or cheeses
(cheddar, Jack, string, gouda, etc.).
VOCABULARY:
sweet - salty - bitter - sour
