LEARNING HOW TO USE A SPOON

MATERIAL

EXERCISE

The child has the tray with a dish of rice, an empty dish and a spoon in front of her. The child is shown how to hold the spoon and transfer the rice spoonful by spoonful into the empty dish without spilling any. If she spills, she can be shown how to clean up afterwards. She spoons rice from one dish to the other until satisfied.
 
Any one of these commodities (rice, lentils, small beans or dried peas) can be kept available for this exercise. The child can help herself to a tray, dishes and a spoon, and choose a commodity to work with.
 
Variation
 
When the child can do this exercise without spilling, she can spoon water from one bowl to another without spilling.
